Fall Harvest Dinner Party Table Top Ideas

September 8, 2012

I personally love the warm color palette of Autumn Table Settings- the gold, orange, red, yellow and brown colors contrasted with the rich greens of evergreen foliage are warming to the soul. Taking a hint from the hottest fall clothing designer collections lets us introduce another color accent of Aubergine (eggplant).

This color will add extra color depth to your tabletop.

Here’s how I set my table:

Place a burlap or linen runner down the center of the table. At your local farmers market you’ll find your accents – a combination of white and orange small pumpkins, and various sizes of squash and gourds. You can purchase fall leaves at your local flower shop or better yet, just look around your back yard for these! Arrange your fall leaves down the center of the table. Next position your pumpkins, squash and gourds. I usually position them so they are scattered and off center of the place settings. Use pear berry branches and ivy to weave in between to connect all the elements together. Place a few of the pumpkins on a small riser to give added height. I sometimes just place a wooden block under the runner to help get some elevation.

I always use unscented candles, on the table. You can’t taste the wine if all you smell is the fragrance from an orange blossom candle.

In my boutique, I carry a line of wax- dipped,  battery operated flameless candles.

They are beautiful and safe and you would swear they are real! New this season are the tapered style candles. These will add an elegant feel to your table. Having a few larger rustic candles of various heights around the house will create a warm and relaxing atmosphere.

When a table centerpiece has a variety of color it’s best to use a “simple” white plate to avoid distracting from the centerpiece. You have a few options with the napkins but be sure to bring in a color from your palette, such as a deep green, or take this opportunity to bring in an aubergine colored napkin. And then of course , a simple white hemstitched linen napkin is always a classic. The Sabre Tortoise Salad Serving Set, Spoons, and Spreaders would be an exquisite touch to add to a mixture of wooden bowls and complete the eclectic rustic elegant look.

Don’t forget to have your play list ready and have music on while your guests start to arrive. It sets the tone of your party.

Culinary pleasures and entertaining with friends and family refresh the soul, revive the spirit, and make new memories.
